Chart Components
Regardless of type, all charts have the same basic componentsThese are shown in the bar chart in Figure 26-2, which shows four different categories of information relating to four of the six Apollo lunar landings The chart title, which is placed by default at the top of the chart, is simply a basic description of the chartAs you ll see in the Common Customizations section, later in this chapter, you can change the location of the title or use a different font or a different color for the text The chart legend collects together the names of the series of data that are shown in the chartThe legend shows the mapping between the series name and the colors used to graph its dataThere are various ways to customize the legend, which we ll cover later in this chapter It is also possible to hide the legend if it is not required A series is a collection of related data points In Figure 26-2, there are four series, each containing three data points for a specific lunar landing In this example, the data points are also arranged into three categories (the total flight time, the total moonwalk time, and the weight of samples returned) Categories are specific to the bar chartAs you can see in Figure 26-2, the bars for all the data in a single category are grouped together, thus allowing us to compare the values for that category across all the different series For example, it
