Once you ve picked a set of use cases that describe a cohesive subset of application features de ned as a unit of work, you are ready to collect more design detail It is time to esh out each selected use case and detail it as scenarios Scenarios provide the level of detail required to turn the use cases into a user interface and de ne the associated business logic A single use case can have one or more scenarios (sets of steps) associated with it In the Purchase Tracker example, the Support staff maintains customer information use case may have a scenario for creating a new customer, updating an existing customer, and deleting a customer Each step in a scenario is normally of the form subject + verb + object The subject de nes who performs the step, the verb de nes what is done, and the object de nes what is affected Notice that this de nes what is done but not necessarily how the application will do it Also, a scenario de nes what is done to perform the task within the context of the new application, not how the task is currently performed This distinction is important because you don t want to get bogged down in It s always been that way There may be a better way Using the Purchase Tracker example, the Support staff updates an existing customer scenario is detailed as follows: 1 Support staff selects a customer to update 2 The system retrieves the data for the selected customer and displays it 3 The support staff can update any of the following data: First Name Last Name (required) Address City State (a two-letter abbreviation) Zip Code (required; a required minimum of ve characters, plus four optional characters): Changing the zip code may reassign the customer s sales representative The user should be noti ed of this Phone (an empty or valid phone number, entered with or without the parentheses and hyphens) 4 The support staff selects to save the changes 5 The system saves the changes

Using Barcode generation for ASP.NET Control to generate, create QR Code 2d barcode image in ASP.NET applications.
6 If the zip code was modi ed and the assigned sales representative changes due to this modi cation, the system noti es the sales representative associated with the original zip code and the sales representative associated with the new zip code Notice that step 1 does not de ne how this step happens Will there be a search feature A combo box with a list of customers A grid with all customer data These decisions are ignored at this point, allowing the conversation with the domain experts to focus on the what without concern for the how (The user interface design, discussed in the next section, answers these how questions) Step 3 de nes the data that must be managed for a customer This includes validation requirements for that data and any business rules that the data must follow Notice that the scenario assumes that the customer is an individual and not a company, since no company af liation information is collected It is important to clarify assumptions and collect as much detail as possible on the data requirements as part of the scenario process

Make EAN128 In .NET
Using Barcode drawer for .NET framework Control to generate, create GS1-128 image in Visual Studio .NET applications.
NOTE: It is best not to duplicate the definition of data for similar scenarios in the design documentation Duplication can cause the definitions to become inconsistent Instead, other scenarios can reference the scenario that describes the data For example, the Support staff creates a new customer scenario would refer to the update scenario for the definition of the data to be created for a customer
Encode Bar Code In .NET
Using Barcode generation for .NET framework Control to generate, create bar code image in Visual Studio .NET applications.
You may have noticed that step 6 identi es a new use case for managing the set of salespeople and their associated territories de ned by zip code The process of detailing your scenarios often leads to identi cation of new use cases You then need to decide whether the new use case ts in with the current set of features you are designing or whether it will be added to the list for a future unit of work If you are familiar with the Uni ed Modeling Language (UML), you can model these use cases and scenarios visually For more information on UML, see the Additional Reading section When you are nished detailing and documenting the scenarios for each use case in the current unit of work, you have the speci cations you need to understand the application features you will be building Validate this design by reviewing the scenarios with the domain experts It should be easy for the domain experts to review the design, because the scenarios are written in terms of the business, not in technical terms
