A PDF417 barcode size can be decided by the following factors:
  • Bar width (X) and Bar height (Y)
  • Image Width and Image Height

Install KA.Barcode for Excel

  1. 1.
    Download KA.Barcode for Excel and unzip
  2. 2.
    Click KeepAutomation.Barcode.Excel.2007.Addin.msi to install
  3. 3.
    Open an Excel document. Click "install" in the pop-up "Microsoft Office Customization Installer" window
  4. 4.
    Switch to Add-In tab, click "Barcode" in the add-in, and a Barcode Setting panel pops up
  5. 5.
    Choose "PDF417" in the "Barcode Type", input data, and click "OK"
  6. 6.
    Now a PDF417 barcode image occurs in Excel

Generating PDF417 with Defined Bar Width & Wide to Narrow Bar Ratio

If you want to generate a PDF417 with defined bar width and height, you only need to adjust X and wide to narrow bar ratio. Default value for bar width is 1 pixel, and wide to narrow bar ratio 2. Here is a demo.

    Set the value "Bar width (X)" to "2" and "Wide to narrow bar ratio" to "2" in the property panel
  2. 2.
    Click "OK", then a Data Matrix barcode image with defined bar width and height occurs in the Excel spreadsheet

Creating PDF417 with Fixed Image Width & Height

In order to create a PDF417 with fixed barcode width & height, you can simply set a proper value to "Image width" and "Image height". Here is the procedure.

    Set "Image width" to 150 pixels and "Image height" to 70 pixels
  2. 2.
    Click "OK" and a target PDF417 with fixed size is generated

With KA.Barcode Addin for Microsoft Excel, users are also allowed to define PDF417 row number and column number. Default for row number is 3, valid from 3-90. Default for column number is 5, valid from 1-30.

    Switch to "2D Barcode" tab and set "Row count" to 3, and "Column count" to 5

    Click "OK" and a target PDF417 with fixed row & column number is generated

Making Truncated PDF417 Barcode

When space is concerned, this PDF417 barcode addin software allows users to generate a PDF417 truncated as is specified in barcode specification. Just tick "Truncated PDF417" to true.

    In the "2D Barcode" tab, tick "Truncated PDF417" to select
  2. 2.
    Click "OK" and a truncated PDF417 is generated

Adjusting PDF417 Quiet Zones

The ISO/IEC PDf417 symbology specification requires a minimum 2X quiet zones, i.e. margins on all four sides of a PDF 417 barcode image. So if you set X dimension to 2, you should take the following procedures as well.

    Set "Left margin", "Right margin", "Top margin" and "Bottom margin" to 4 pixels
  2. 2.
    Click "OK" and a PDF417 with 4 pixel sorrounding margins is generated
