How to generate PDF417 images using Barcode Generator for Excel

PDF-417 Information
PDF417, also named as Portable Data File 417, PDF 417, PDF417 Truncated, is a stacked barcode symbol used mainly in transport, inventory management and identification cards.

PDF417 Valid Data:

  • ASCII: values 0-127 (in accordance with ISO/IEC 646), including 0-9, A-Z, a-z and special characters like - (dash), $ (dollar), : (colon), / (slash), . (point) and + (plus), etc.

PDF417 Valid Length

  • A PDF-417 barcode is variable-length, so you can simply any amount of data you want for PDF-417 image implementation & integration in C#.NET environment.
  • The maximum data codeword capacity is 925 codewords.

Install PDF417 Barcode Add-In for Excel

    Download KA.Barcode Add-In for Excel and unzip.
  2. 2.
    Click KeepAutomation.Barcode.Excel.2007.Addin.msi to install.
  3. 3.
    Open an Excel document and click "install" in the pop-up "Microsoft Office Customization Installer" window
  4. 4.
    Now you will see KA.Barcode Add-In in the Excel menu bar add-in tab.
  5. 5.
    Switch to KA.Barcode Add-In tab, click the button, and a property panel appears on the right side.

Byte Data Mode for PDF417

If you select PDF417 Byte Compaction Mode, you can encode all 256 possible 8-bit byte values. This includes all ASCII characters value 0 to 127 inclusive and provides for international character set support.

    In the barcode type pull down menu, select PDF417.
  2. 2.
    Select data mode "Byte" in the Data Mode pull-down menu.
  3. 3.
    Input byte data, for example, "417#pdf", into textbox.
  4. 4.
    Adjust other settings like size if necessary.

    Click Generate button and a PDF417 image is successfully generated.

Numeric Data Mode for PDF417

PDF417 Numeric Compaction Mode permits efficient encoding of numeric data strings. If you want to encode numeric digits only, follow the steps here.

    In the barcode type pull down menu, select PDF417.
  2. 2.
    Select data mode "Numeric" in the Data Mode pull-down menu.
  3. 3.
    Input byte data, for example, "417714", into textbox.
  4. 4.
    Adjust other settings like size if necessary.
  5. 5.
    Click Generate button and a PDF417 image is created in Excel.

Text Data Mode for PDF-417

Text Data Mode for PDF417 can encode all printable ASCII characters, such as A-Z, 0-9, as well as selected control characters.

    In the barcode type pull down menu, select PDF417.
  2. 2.
    In the Data Mode pull-down menu please select data mode "Text"
  3. 3.
    Input proper data, for example, "PDF417", into textbox.
  4. 4.
    Adjust other settings like size if necessary.
  5. 5.
    Click Generate button and a PDF417 image is successfully painted.
