ISBN Introduction
ISBN, short for "International Standard Book Number", is a numeric-only linear barcode developed as a commercial book identifier based upon the 9-digit Standard Book Numbering (SBN) code. Now, this ISBN barcode is used extensively by publishers, retailers as well as libraries to manage inventory.

ISBN barcode has fixed data length of 12 digits (excluding a check digit). Its encodable character set is as follows:
  • Numeric characters 0-9
  • Start with "978" or "979"

How to Draw an ISBN Barcode in Excel

    Switch to "Add-Ins" tab in an Excel document
  2. 2.
    Activate "Insert Barcode" below the Excel menu bar
  3. 3.
    A barcode setting panel appears on the right
  4. 4.
    Select "ISBN" in the "SYMBOLOGY" pull-down menu
  5. 5.
    Type valid data in the text box of "VALID DATA"

    If necessary, modify the parameters of the barcode in the barcode setting panel

How to Generate an ISBN Barcode List in Excel

    Select barcode type "ISBN" in the "SYMBOLOGY" pull-down menu

    Click "Insert" and a list of ISBN images are created according to the data in the selected list of cells

How to Link an ISBN Barcode to Cell Contents

    Activate "Add-Ins" tab and click "Insert Barcode" in an Excel document

    You can see a barcode setting panel pops up on the right

    Select "ISBN" in "SYMBOLOGY" and input "978123456789" in "VALID DATA" as an example

    Click "Insert" to generate an ISBN barcode on the document

    Select the created ISBN barcode and click "Link Barcode to Cell"
  6. 6.
    Select a cell with valid data and click "Update Barcode"
  7. 7.
    Now the ISBN image is successfully linked to the data in the cell
Additionally, a couple of ISBN barcodes which are linked to cells can be updated at one time. To realize this function, make sure all the barcodes are linked to different cells first.
