FXObjectValue FXObjectValue is the wrapper for all object references, including the JavaFX types String and DurationThis class has methods that allow you to invoke the functions of the wrapped object, which we cover in the Using Reflection section, later in this chapter It does not have a method that allows you to retrieve the wrapped valueAlthough this might seem strange (and inconvenient), there is a good reason for it The JavaFX Reflection APIs are designed to allow you to write code that can manipulate objects either in the same JVM as your code or in a remote JVMTo retrieve the value represented by an FXObjectValue instance, it would be necessary to load and initialize an instance of that object s class If that object is in the same JVM as your code, the class file is available, so it is possible to create an instance If the object were in a remote JVM (which, as noted earlier, is not currently supported), there would be no guarantee that the required class file is available to your code, so the default assumption is that the class could not be loadedYou would still be able to get the values of a remote object s variables or invoke its functions by using the Reflection API, as described in the Variables and Functions In the case that your code is running in the same JVM as the object for which you have an FXObjectValue, it is possible to get the wrapped object, because in this case, the FXObjectValue objects that you get are actually instances of a subclass called FXLocalObjectValue, and this class has a method called asObject() that will return the wrapped value:

13 Reflection
FXFunctionValue The FXFunctionValue class represents an executable function, which could be a script function, an instance function, or an anonymous function In the example shown here, the code that is highlighted in bold is the part that would be represented by an FXFunctionValue
