Let s build an application page (see 10, SharePoint Pages, for more information on application pages) that allows a user to select a site collection and create a list for a selected site within the site collection based on the user input An application page is a page developed using ASPNET that sits within the SharePoint URL hierarchy and interacts with the SharePoint server-side object models You typically create an application page when you want to create some very custom UI that displays within SharePoint but doesn t need to be customized by each individual user because application pages don t support per-user customization If you need peruser customizations, you should create a web part instead as described in 9, SharePoint Web Parts Open Visual Studio 2010 and select New Project In the New Project dialog navigate to SharePoint under Installed Templates and select 2010 Create an Empty SharePoint project and name it ListwithServerOm Click the OK button In the SharePoint Wizard select Deploy as Farm Solution and click the Finish button Once the project is created go to the Solution Explorer and right click on the project node to bring up the context menu In the context menu select Add and then New Item The Add New Item dialog comes up Select Application Page Figure 4-45 shows the Add New Item Dialog
