Management and Maintenance
Make GS1 - 13 In VS .NET
Using Barcode printer for .NET framework Control to generate, create GTIN - 13 image in Visual Studio .NET applications.
FIGURE 9-72 The TS Manager interface Details of status can be displayed via the Status context menu option, which shows information about the local client, including the client build number The build number identi es the OS (eg, 6000 is Windows Vista), client name, encryption used, color depth, resolution, and input/out status (such as bytes in and out) Because the inbound bytes are mouse moves and keypresses, this is normally quite small compared to the outgoing count, which is the screen updates If you reset a session, the session is closed and the user logged out Disconnecting a session just disconnects the user from the session but leaves the session intact, enabling the user to reconnect in the future The Users tab presents the same basic options but from a user perspective, so you also have an option to log off The Processes tab lists all the processes on the system, along with the user and session ID that owns the process You can select a process and end it if required (for example, if it is using up a lot of resources on the server)

A large number of command-line tools are available for interfacing with TS Some of them have been covered, such as qwinsta, mstsc, tscon, tskill, and chglogon However, there are many others Sending a message to users was discussed in the previous section You can do this from the command line, with the msg command For example, to send a message to all users on a server, type the following:

Terminal Services
Printing Barcode In Visual Studio .NET
Using Barcode printer for .NET Control to generate, create bar code image in Visual Studio .NET applications.
A number of other command-line tools are discussed in Microsoft help However, aside from the ones mentioned so far, most of the con guration takes place via the graphical user interface or via Group Policy, which is discussed next Given that TS is graphical by nature, the development of command-lines tools was not high on the developers priority list What was high on the list was WMI integration, which provides access from most scripting languages and, interestingly, PowerShell You can use WMI for nearly everything possible in TS, so if you are looking to automate actions and con guration (if Group Policy is not the answer), WMI might be the way to go For example, you could write a WMI script to monitor and provide an alert about whether everyone has ended their sessions from a terminal server or whether your TS CAL license thresholds are met
UPC-A Supplement 2 Maker In .NET
Using Barcode drawer for Visual Studio .NET Control to generate, create UPC-A Supplement 5 image in .NET framework applications.
Group Policy Management of TS
Printing Identcode In Visual Studio .NET
Using Barcode printer for VS .NET Control to generate, create Identcode image in .NET framework applications.
Throughout this chapter, Group Policy has been discussed as an option for many of the con guration elements of the environment, and this section sums up that information Windows Server 2008 help often talks about setting the con guration in the Terminal Services Con guration MMC snapin and the relevant settings in Group Policy The configuration areas related to server configuration are in Computer Con guration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Terminal Services; the bulk of the con guration is under the subarea Terminal Server, as shown in Figure 9-73 There are areas for each major part of terminal server con guration For example, you can con gure the time that disconnected sessions are ended via the policy If you have 100 terminal servers using Group Policy for the con guration, this makes a lot more sense than manually con guring each one And if you decide to change a setting, you can change it once in Group Policy instead of on 100 machines Placing TS in a speci c OU makes it easy to link terminal server speci c GPOs In general, any con guration you can perform via the graphical interface is also possible via Group Policy So consider the fact that if you need to make a con guration to more than one server, it is probably best to use Group Policy The other major configuration area is in User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Terminal Services However, this has basic settings that relate mostly to the client experience, such as redirection It also has settings related to user session timeouts
