Encode Bar Code In .NET Framework
Using Barcode generation for Visual Studio .NET Control to generate, create barcode image in .NET framework applications.
If you change log le formats, a new log le is not created Instead, the log just switches format mid- le You can optionally output the logging information to a SQL database with the same information logged, which can be local or remote, and a speci c database instance on the server can be speci ed along with the credentials needed to connect

Routing
Generating Bar Code In VS .NET
Using Barcode drawer for Visual Studio .NET Control to generate, create barcode image in .NET framework applications.
You covered some routing aspects earlier, and there is little con guration to perform If you access the NPS server properties, the General tab gives you insight into the types of IP routing that the server performs, as shown in Figure 8-26 RRAS works great where multiple network interface cards are present on different networks and route traf c between the networks per the con guration Detail on the NICs present in a server can be viewed via the Network Interfaces area, but the main area is protocol speci c via the IPv4 and IPv6 console tree areas

FIGURE 8-26 The General tab for an NPS server s properties If you take IPv4 you have a General area that shows you the interfaces on the server, their type, and information related to the connection including address, amount of data, and status The Static Routes area enables you to de ne speci c routes on the server based on the interface to use for the route and the destination information along with a metric, as shown in Figure 8-27 Static routes are useful if you have rewalls or restrictions in place and you want to ensure that traf c is routed via a speci c gateway to a particular subnet

Network Access Protection (NAP)
ANSI/AIM Code 128 Creator In Visual Studio .NET
Using Barcode generation for ASP.NET Control to generate, create Code 128A image in ASP.NET applications.
NAP is a major feature of Windows Server 2008 and addresses the problem of clients connected to the network that don t meet the organization s health requirements Many of the defenses you place on your servers and desktop systems are based on rewalls, anti-malware, and policies to lock down aspects of the environment, to protect you from harmful software However, you can place the most advanced rewall and malware checking on the planet at your company s perimeter, but that does zero good if someone brings a laptop into the company and plugs it in via the wired or wireless network If that laptop has a virus, it quickly spreads Likewise, you have problems if a user VPNs into your organization or even remotes in via Terminal Services You want to be able to state a healthiness level that a client must meet to connect to your network That level could be de ned in terms of Windows updates, rewall con gurations, antivirus de nition les, and so forth Under Windows Server 2003, you had a limited ability like this for VPN connections Microsoft provided sample VPN Quarantine scripts (available at wwwmicrosoftcom/downloads/detailsaspx FamilyID= a290f2ee-0b55-491e-bc4c-8161671b2462&displaylang=en) that were used in conjunction with the Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK) to perform checks on incoming connections to ensure that they met certain criteria If the script passed the client, the VPN connection was allowed with full access If the script failed the client, the connection was either refused, or it was allowed but the client was placed in a quarantine network The quarantine network had limited routes to the rest of the network, so it could access only speci c resources; for example, an update server to get the client to a state so that it can pass the script But this was only for VPNs Wired and wireless networks still had no capability to limit connectivity based on the health of a client With NAP you can now request a statement of health (SoH) from a client when connectivity is attempted Based on the SoH and the requirements de ned in policies, connection can be allowed, refused, or the client can, as with the VPN, be placed in a quarantine network to be made healthy This NAP not only performs initial checks on clients and helps enforce a level of health but enforces the health requirement over the long term when computers connect, ensuring ongoing compliance It is not a

pass once and you re good to go forever system When you look at virus attacks, the computers attacked are typically those that have not had recent patches applied, that don t have a rewall enabled, and that don t have recent virus de nition les NAP supports Windows Vista and Windows XP SP3 as clients A Windows Server 2008 server is required as the policy server to validate the health of clients It s important to understand that NAP provides the platform to provide the enforcement of health However, many other companies will write components for NAP particularly for the system health agents (SHAs) that report elements of health A full API is available to integrate those components Also understand that NAP is a method to report on the health of a computer and, based on that health, enforce levels of access, but it is not a replacement for any rewall, anti-malware, and patch processes you have in place Those solutions are all still needed, and NAP just communicates with those solutions to understand the overall health of the computer and provide health enforcement For example, Windows Update is still needed to obtain patches for a computer The missing piece with Windows Update is that if a computer has not had the latest patches applied, there is no way to enforce a level of access With NAP you can check the patches applied If the latest patches are not applied, you can enforce limited access and instruct the client to use Windows Update to get the latest xes The client has only limited access until compliant When a client rst connects to the network, a health policy validation is performed, which causes the computer to be validated against the health requirement policies that have been de ned using the various available SHAs and system health validators (SHVs) If a computer is compliant, unrestricted access is given via a number of methods, such as an IP address with routes to the entire network or certi cates that enable secure communication with the computers in the environment A noncompliant computer, one that does not meet your health requirements, might be quarantined into a limited access, restricted network This is typically the case when you are using NAP to enforce a restricted access environment Another option is to allow the computer full access but log the fact that the computer is not compliant this is the approach taken when you use NAP in a monitoring-only environment You likely used a phased approach when implementing NAP, which involves both types of implementation as you see later in this section The limited access network that you can de ne for noncompliant computers can be limited access in terms of connectivity and/or a speci c amount of connection time If you enable a restricted
