In our example, we aren t submitting the form data But if the data was to be submitted, we might want to select the Prompt user to sign the form if it is submitted without a signature checkbox Checking this option will immediately open the Submit Options dialog We discussed this option in 8, so we ll skip over its details for now After clicking OK to the Form Options dialog, take a look at the data source Figure 1133 shows the Data Source task pane with the signatures2 group highlighted This group was created automatically by InfoPath to hold the signature data when the user signs the form Remember that the XML data generated as the user lls out the form must always be valid according to its XML Schema Since the digital signatures feature needs to put the signed data somewhere in the data source, the signature group is where this data can exist without violating schema constraints Even though the signature group exists in the data source, there is really nothing for you to do with it The signature group shows a lock icon, so you cannot directly delete or modify it Dragging this group into the view doesn t insert anything into the view; instead, it shows the Digital Signatures category of the Form Options dialog (Figure 1132) To remove the signature group, select the Do not enable digital signatures option button in that dialog There s not much excitement to be had for digital signatures in design mode, so let s try previewing and signing our form! After clicking the Preview Form button and lling in some data, click the Digital Signatures button in the Standard toolbar The button is highlighted with a tool tip in Figure 1135 Alternatively, the Tools menu has an equivalent Digital Signatures menu item After you click the Digital Signatures button (or select the Tools menu item), the Digital Signatures dialog appears (Figure 1136) Fundamentally, this dialog lets you add or remove a digital signature But, more importantly, it helps users understand precisely what data they re signing Let s sign this form (which will enable the View Signed Form button shown in Figure 1136) and then look at what data we signed
