Another common task that you can perform on controls in Expression Blend is transforms. Transforms are typically used with animations to apply some kind of positioning, size, or behavior aspect to the control during the animation. Silverlight allows you to set Translate, Rotate, Scale, Skew, Center Point, and Flip Transform settings using different tabs in the Transform pane. The following sections discuss those settings.

Translate

The Translate tab of the Transform pane, shown in Figure 4.32, allows you to set the X and Y properties of the TranslateTransform setting for the control. These settings control the horizontal and vertical positioning in pixels of the control during animation. The result of setting these options is the following XAML statement inside the <TransformGroup> block of the control:

You can also set the RenderTransformOrigin property of the control by clicking one of the controls in the box in the left of the Transform pane. Each of these boxes changes the RenderTransformOrigin property based on the location of the box; for example, the center box sets the value to the following:

The Rotate tab of the Transform pane, shown in Figure 4.33, allows you to set the Angle property of the RotateTransform setting for the control. The Scale tab of the Transform pane, shown in Figure 4.34, allows you to set the ScaleX and ScaleY properties of the ScaleTransform setting for the control. These settings control the horizontal and vertical sizing, on a one-based scale, of the control during animation. The result of setting these options is the following XAML statement inside the <TransformGroup> block of the control:

The Skew tab of the Transform pane, shown in Figure 4.35, allows you to set the AngleX and AngleY properties of the SkewTransform setting for the control. These settings control the horizontal and vertical skew, in pixels, of the control during animation. The result of setting these options is the following XAML statement inside the <TransformGroup> block of the control:

Center point
The Center Point tab of the Transform pane, shown in Figure 4.36, allows you to set very specific values for the RenderTransformOrigin property of the control. To set the value of the RenderTransformOrigin, you can either drag the X or Y slider or type a value into the slider box. Changing the values of X and Y sets the value of the RenderTransformOrigin property of the control as shown in the following code:

Flip
The Flip tab of the Transform pane, shown in Figure 4.37, allows you to quickly set the properties of the ScaleTransform, SkewTransform, and RotateTransform settings in the <TransformGroup> block for the control. Changing these settings flips the control either vertically or horizontally depending on what the settings are.
