CheckBox controls are very similar to Button controls and inherit most of the Button controls properties and events. A CheckBox control allows you to create a check box element that can be toggled on or off by clicking it with the mouse. The CheckBox control defaults to unchecked: however, you can define it as being set initially in XAML using the IsChecked property. A basic check box can be created with the following code: <CheckBox Content= Set Me Height= 50 Width= 100 IsChecked= True /> CheckBox controls can be declared in XAML with several different properties that enhance their look and feel. The DatePicker control is very similar to the Calendar control. The main component in the DatePicker control is a text box that allows the user to see and set a textual representation of the date. To the right of the control, as shown in Figure 3.4, is a button that displays an accompanying Calendar control to make date selection easier.

The HyperlinkButton control is kind of a hybrid cross between a button and text. The control appears similar to a TextBlock; however, it has mouse clicking functionality of a Button control built into it. What makes the HyperlinkButton control unique is the NavigateUri property. You can set the NavigateUri property to any URI, as shown in the following code. When the HyperlinkButton is clicked, the browser navigates to that URI:

Creating an Image
One of the most useful Silverlight controls in adding a professional look to applications is the Image control. The Image control allows you to add images to your applications as a codemanageable control by simply referencing their URI in the Source property.

The Height and Width properties allow you to set the size of the Image control and the Stretch property defines how the image file fills that space. As shown in the following code, the Stretch property can be set to None (default), Fill, Uniform, and UniformToFill:

Figure 3.6 shows the rendered Image controls from the previous code. Even though it is the same image, the Stretch property changes how the image actually is rendered. None and Uniform settings simply display the image uniformly in the space provided by the Height and Width settings. Fill stretches the image to fill the space. UniformToFill keeps the image uniform but clips it so that it fills the entire space specified by Height and Width.
