Once you have created the drawing you want to publish on the Web, creating the DWF file is like plotting. You use a special ePlot plotting device, which is driven by a PC3 plotter configuration file, to plot the drawing to a DWF file. AutoCAD 2002 comes with two ePlot configuration files already set up. To create a DWF file, follow these steps: 1. Choose Plot from the Standard toolbar. 2. On the Plot Device tab of the Plot dialog box, select an ePlot plotter from the Name drop-down list: DWF eView (optimized for viewing) creates files that can have a high vector resolution to maintain quality when zooming in during viewing. DWF ePlot (optimized for plotting) creates files that are optimized for plotting. This format creates higher-quality raster images (if any are embedded in the drawing) than DWF files created with eView. 3. In the Plot to File section, type a name for the ePlot. By default, AutoCAD uses the same name as your drawing and adds the active tab (the model tab or a layout tab), appending the DWF extension. 4. Use the ellipsis button to navigate to a location or select the file from the drop-down list. You can also choose a URL by clicking the Internet button. 5. If you want to create a hidden view, click the Plot Settings tab and check Hide Objects in the Plot Options section of the Plot dialog box. 6. Click OK. AutoCAD creates the DWF file.

Both DWF eView and ePlot support merge control. For more information, see 18.
You can customize several settings for DWF files, such as the resolution, background color (for example black or white), and whether or not to show paper boundaries.
